How to Install an Air Dry Clothesline Step by Step
1. Choose the location. Pick a spot where the frame can fully open and fold down without obstruction. Allow at least 500 to 600mm clearance in front, and set the frame at about 1800mm high, or shoulder height, for comfortable reach.
2. Fit the wall brackets. Use a spirit level to keep both brackets straight, mark the holes using the bracket as a template, drill and fit wall plugs for brick or rendered walls, then secure with the screws and washers supplied. On weatherboard, install structural timber support first. Never mount the clothesline on a fence.
3. Or set the ground legs. For a standard ground mount kit, dig two holes 550mm deep and about 200 to 250mm wide. Level the legs with a string line or spirit level, fill with concrete and let it cure for 24 hours before fitting the frame. Twin Fold models need extra bracket and arm assembly, shown in the Twin Fold GM booklet.
4. Attach the frame and arms. Slide the frame into place and secure the arms to the brackets with the bolts or pins provided. Check the arms pivot freely and the strut locks firmly when raised.
5. Thread and tension the lines. Follow the threading diagram for your model and feed the cord through the frame holes, keeping the tension even. Pull taut and tie off firmly. The lines can stretch slightly after the first few uses, so re-tensioning once they settle is normal.
How to Fold an Air Dry Clothesline Up and Down
To fold it down, remove all laundry and pegs, stand at the centre and gently lift the frame to release the strut. Then guide the arms down slowly until they sit flat against the wall or posts, and check the lines are still taut. To open it, lift the arms until the strut clicks into place and the frame is secure.
