Austral clotheslines have been a staple in Australian homes since 1987. Whether you're upgrading your old line or installing a new one, the Austral clothesline range is built with quality materials and designed to suit the needs of Australian families. This guide covers the fold down, rotary and retractable models and their key features.
The Austral Advantage
Austral clotheslines are known for durability and craftsmanship, built to withstand the harsh Australian sun and weather. Galvanised steel construction makes them tough and long-lasting, a reliable way to dry your clothes in the fresh air.
Extensive Range of Models and Sizes
Every home has different drying needs. Whether you're working with a spacious backyard or a compact urban courtyard, Austral offers a diverse selection of clotheslines to fit any space.
At The Clothesline Store, the Austral range includes fold down clotheslines for tighter areas, folding and fixed rotary hoists for larger outdoor spaces, and retractable clotheslines for ultimate flexibility.

Austral Fixed Head Rotary Hoists
Austral fixed head rotary hoists are a classic choice for Australian households, with a large drying space that's ideal for large families.
With a generous head diameter, they take a substantial load, including king-size sheets, and the number of lines means you can dry more laundry at once. They're made from galvanised steel.
Deluxe 4 and Super 4. A 4.0m head diameter, needing 5.0m of installation space, in galvanised steel.
Deluxe 5 and Super 5. A 5.0m head diameter, needing 6.0m of installation space, in galvanised steel.
Austral Folding Rotary Clotheslines
For the best of both worlds, Austral FoldAway folding rotaries combine the spaciousness of a rotary with the convenience of folding away. When not in use, fold the clothesline down or lift it out of the ground socket, while still having a generous drying area when you need it.
FoldAway 45. A 3.3m head diameter, needing 4.8m of installation space.
FoldAway 51. A 3.8m head diameter, needing 4.8m of installation space.
Colours. Classic Cream, Dune, Cottage Green, Woodland Grey and Monument.
Austral RetractAway Retractable Clotheslines
Austral RetractAway clotheslines extend from 2m up to 10m, so you can set as much drying space as you need. When not in use, the lines retract neatly into a compact cabinet, keeping your outdoor area tidy. RetractAway is our recommended retractable.
RetractAway 40. 40m of line, in Classic Cream, Surfmist, Woodland Grey and Monument. Mounts wall to wall, wall to post, post to post or post to wall, with ground socket options.
RetractAway 50. 50m of line, in the same colours and mounting options.
Materials and Spare Parts
Austral uses BlueScope Galvabond tubular steel for structural components, and cords, wires and plastics are made to Austral's environmental and durability standards. Spare parts are readily available, helping you keep your clothesline working for longer.

Suzanne W. Extremely Impressed. "Great service, great product. Very impressed by the speed the clothesline was delivered!" Austral Folding Rotary Hoist FoldAway 51
Jeremy B. Very Happy with this Clothesline. "We are so happy with this clothesline. Nice and compact (we have installed on a balcony) yet still fits 2 average sized loads on it (we are a family of four). We found installation a little tricky, mainly due to the surface we were attaching it to and our relative lack of DIY experience/handiness, however we got there in the end and it is working as expected. The only thing to be aware of is that due to it being compact, the lines are quite close together (so more can fit in the space) which can make it a little fiddly to hang and peg some items. For me this is absolutely negated by the overall convenience of the product. It was also shipped and delivered very quickly. Would definitely recommend." Austral Fold Down Unit Line
Peta P. Super 4 Rotary Hoist Clothesline. "Good website, easy to order and delivered quickly. We found the wiring a bit tricky but got there in the end. Good product and smooth operation."
Abby M. Easy to Use and Install. "The retractable clothesline is fantastic! It's incredibly easy to install and saves so much space. The line extends smoothly and holds a lot of laundry, making drying clothes outdoors convenient. When not in use, it retracts neatly, keeping the yard tidy. Highly recommend for any household!"
